THE SILCHESTER GALLERY
Each year the site of the Roman town of Silchester is further excavated by the Archeological Department of University of Reading. In 2004 the Berkshire Guild of Spinners, Weavers & Dyers were invited to attempt to recreate the Roman approaches to our crafts. Over the two Open Days nearly 2000 visitors came to see an archaeological dig in action, to hear from the experts about how to interpret what has been uncovered and to enjoy related demonstrations such as Roman metal working and our own spinning and weaving. We returned to the dig this year as well but as the weather was not so fine we have left last years pictures up.
